Move over Desperate Housewives: the “Happy Good Wives Institute” has arrived and claims it can help [wealthy]women wary of losing their marriages, according to a rather oddly placed report in the Beijing Evening News.
The concept is not entirely new – Japan, for instance, has institutes catering to a similar demographic, but those mainly teach housewives practical domestic skills like cooking and flower arranging. The Beijing version, however, caters to more affluent women and includes courses in “cognitive thinking and personal emotions,” “conflict mediation” and “ways to prevent your husband from finding a mistress” (although the article does not go into detail about how they go about teaching this). The institute also claims to have a free online course for prospective students to check out, but our attempts to locate a link in the article and online proved fruitless.
