You’d think that there would only be holiday happenings going on around here this time of year, but that’s not so! New job opportunities, new dining options, new winter camps and more are around every corner, so keep your ears and eyes open for new news!
*Beijing United Family Hospital & Clinics and Beijing Tongzhou Blood Center will sponsor a holiday community blood drive at WAB on Saturday, November 26 from 10am-4:30pm. If you’ll be there during the holiday bazaar, be sure to stop by their mobile blood unit and give a gift that may save a life. Donors need to be under age 55 and have not given blood in the last six months. You need to have your passport or Chinese ID with you. Walk-ins welcome, or email to make an appointment (Jenifer.Sullivan@ufh.com.cn).
*Three special events coming up at Care for Children, the River Garden campus. Contact Jenni Young at 8046 3306 or admin@careforchildrenservices.com.cn for more information:
-On Friday, November 25 from 10:20am-noon, parents come and learn more about how to support their children’s learning difficulties at “Dyslexia Dos and Don’ts.”
-On Thursday, December 1 from 6-7:30pm come to a special interest evening, “Understanding and Designing Individual Education Plans (IEPs)” by Principal Dennis McKibben. Learn about assessments, goal setting and supporting your child during this special presentation.
-One more Adult Support Group meeting will be available in November – Tuesday the 29th from 5-6:30pm, get support for anxiety, depression and other issues during this free class, all with concurrent free child care.
*Don’t forget about the winter camp programs offered at The Learning Center for students grades 1-8. Sessions run from Dec 19-23 or Jan 2-6, and early bird registration continues until November 30. Call 8046 3886 or e-mail learningcenterbeijing@gmail.com for details.
*Dulwich Community Programmes opens registration for the winter camps today! Beginning December 19, enroll your child in enriching programs such as theater, soccer, basketball, cartoon painting, taekwondo, and sports fun. Registrations are at the Legend Garden campus between 8am-9pm on weekdays and 9am-7pm on weekends. E-mail dcp@dulwich-beijing.cn for more information.
*Roundabout’s Book Fair was a rousing success once again – RMB 50,200 was raised in one single day! Thanks to all who were able to come support the book sale. Some Christmas items, including the lovely Christmas cards, will continue to be on sale at the Dulwich coffee shops (10 cards for RMB 80).
*Although Roundabout does not have a retail location, they are able to store donations at the British Rego School, BSB, AGS Fourwinds and The Special Commune. In addition, they have a not-yet-demolished building where donations can be stored and sorted. If you do have donations – it’s the time of year when some people are moving on from Beijing – please give Leslie a call at 137 1877 7761 and she will arrange for someone to assist with your drop-off.
*Positive Foundations School, a Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten in Gahood Villas, is seeking a full-time preschool teacher and a part-time art teacher. For requirements and responsibilities, contact Tina at pfsschool@gmail.com.
*Tucked back by the elevators on the 2nd floor of Euro Plaza is a new Yunnan restaurant called Treescape. It’s been there for about a month, but it snuck up on me, and it’s quite large with a lounge area and a playroom. The extensive menu includes plenty of vegetarian options as well as meat entrees.
*During the River Garden bazaar this past weekend, they highlighted a new clothing shop located in the front of the clubhouse building (below Victor’s, where Chaterhouse books used to be). Stop by to visit Les Boutiques during opening hours of 10:30am-7:30pm to see women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. With the grand opening, there are sales of 20-50% off!
*Lets Burger is about to open a branch in the Pinnacle Avenue area (by A to Z Kids and the British Rego School). The sign is up, but there appears to be work needed on the inside before opening – no information has been posted yet, but rumor has it that they may open next month. Stay tuned…
*All the little Christmas decoration huts are starting to pop up around Shunyi. The Pinnacle Plaza outside hut is mostly open for business, as is the indoor Euro Plaza location (beside McDonald’s). Of course, there are the numerous stalls at Beidong Flower Market, and you can always select your real Christmas tree on the roadside between River Garden and Capital Paradise.
