Middle school students at Beijing International Bilingual Academy (BIBA) were recently treated to a morning of special presentations during “Career Day.” In a rotating schedule, students visited different classrooms to see 15-minute career option presentations by eight professionals with various expertise. True to the bi-lingual nature of the school, each presenter spoke in their native language during the session.
Presenters included Dr. Winson Seow, a trauma surgeon and emergency physician currently working with Medecins sans Frontieres (medical humanitarian aid). Captivating students with the topic of “A Day in Libya,” Dr. Seow talked about keeping calm while working under extreme conditions. BIBA teacher Shanna Albert gave students a better understanding of what it means to plan and teach schoolchildren, and Darrell Barnes of Sports Beijing offered insight into the complexities of spearheading a successful sports program for kids in Beijing. Also represented were the Red Cross, Ericsson, TCM and several others, providing a glimpse into a wide variety of career choices as these students start to develop their personal strengths and interests.
BIBA was previously known KinStar with a primary focus on the kindergarten and elementary grades. However, recently expanding to three buildings and now providing instruction up through Grade 8 with a complete bilingual program, the school is excited to have room to grow and anticipates further developing interest from the Shunyi area.
