The hand-drawn animated film “珍贵日子的梦想”, or English title “Green days”, first came out in June 2011 in Korea. After earned respectable reviews after screening at 2010 the Pusan International Film Festival and 2010 The London Korean Film Festival, “the premier show” came to Beijing last week. The film has 80s Korea as a background and captures some precious moments of a child. Yi-Rang is a track runner in her high school. She has never lost a race and considers running to be the only thing which she is good at. One day, she falls behind in a race and purposefully falls down. Yi-Rang quits running out of fear, because she is afraid of losing again. No one in her school can even persuade her to try again. New transfer student from Seoul Soo-Min enters in the class of Yi-Rang. She is pretty and attracts all the other boys’ attention, Yi-Rang observing her charms feels even more insecure. Yi-Rang’s classmate Chul-Soom who aspires to become an astronaut, attempts to help Yi-Rang find her way.
The film’s original title in Korean can be translated as “A Precious Day to Dream”. It probably delivers more the meaning of the film than its English name. As a child, we may all go through an anxiety moment. Everyday life may indeed frustrating and sometimes lack of direction. However, never stop dreaming. If you stop dreaming you also lose your track on the present and motivation for the future.
