Though we’re barely into spring, schools and other organizations are already gearing up for warm weather pursuits. With limited space and high demand, now is the perfect time to register for summer camp. Here’s a preliminary list, with more to be added as we find out about them.
AEA US Embassy Summer Camp
The AEA US Embassy Summer Camp is an annual American-style day camp offering games, songs, and activities around a different and dynamic theme every week. All campers will receive an AEA camp t-shirt, hat, and certificate.
Who? Ages 4-12
What? Campers will participate in activities like swimming, arts, sports, and theater, as well as go on field trips. Lunch and transportation is provided.
When? June 18-Agust 17 (Participants can register for one, two, three, or all nine weeks.)

Beijing Playhouse Kids Summer Theater Camp
Beijing Playhouse hosts a two-week theater camp with two goals: 1) learn theater; and 2) have fun. The summer camp concludes with a performance of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves for friends, family, and the community at large. Though students are required to audition, all those who audition will get a role. (Please note that working English proficiency is required.)
Who? Ages 6-14*
*Students 15-18 years of age can enroll in Beijing Playhouse’s theater junior internship program
What? Over two weeks, students will have classes in acting, music, and dance to prepare for the big show. They will also do set painting, prop making, and costume design.
When? July 30-August 11 (The audition/enrollment is on July 7 at 4pm and the performance is on August 11 at 2pm.)

Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) Summer Camps
For the past six years, CISB has offered two summer camps open to all students in Beijing: the Kindergarten Creative Camp and the Summer Enrichment Camp.
1. Kindergarten Creative Camp
Who? Ages 18 months-6 years.
What? This program includes phonics/reading, creative English workshops, Chinese language and culture, arts and crafts, music, swimming, and physical education.

What? The Summer Enrichment Camp merges English and Chinese language classes, field trips, cultural activities and sports, allowing students to improve their language skills while enjoying their summer holidays. Activities include music, dance, kung fu, Lego Education, art, basketball, volleyball, swimming, ice skating, and badminton.

Dulwich Community Programs (Summer 2012 Term)
For the summer term, Dulwich College Beijing offers a number of sports, music, language, and drama programs. Though not a summer camp per se, these classes are a great way to get kids and teens involved in fun and enriching summer activities.
Who? Toddlers, kids, teens, and adults (age group varies according to program)
What? A wide variety of community classes, including French, wushu, pottery, basketball, tai chi, composition, swimming, ballet, and more.

Organized by Etonkids International Kindergarten, the Around the World 2012 Summer Camp allows kids to discover the world through science and culture.

What? The camp is geared towards families from outside of China who want to improve their children’s Mandarin speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as expose and foster an interest in Chinese culture. Ivy also accepts local expat students.

For six years, Neighborhood Chinese Language Center (NCLC) has run summer and winter camps for kids with sports and language activities. The camp is located around 10km from the Lido Country Club, where students are picked up and dropped off. The main teaching language is Chinese.

This Shanghai-based international non-profit organization offers summer camps for kids and teens in remote areas of China. All activities are inspired by Waldorf education (with some Chinese characteristics, of course).
