World renowned coffee shop Starbucks is currently in the process of expanding its franchise across China, to include more than 1,500 cafes by 2015. The company is opening new stores at a rate of about 1 every 4 days in order to meet this target. Throughout the week, the company has been hosting events in Beijing and Shanghai for China store managers and their parents. The aim of the events was to allow the parents of employees to get to know more about the franchise and the people behind the company, in order to gain more support from families across China. James Roy, senior analyst at China Market Research, a Shanghai-based consultancy stated "Parents are a good stakeholder to get onboard in terms of employee happiness". The company is hoping to overtake its current rivals in China: British Costa Coffee and South Korean owned bakery chains Tous Les Jours and Paris Baguette.
