Since 2010 every year, shortly after the Chinese New Year break, parents and children are able to vote for their favorite Panda book in an aim to take “students on an exciting reading adventure.” The books are chosen by the Panda Steering Committee which consists of a number of international librarians located across China. The committee has already compiled a list of books for 2012-2013 to be made available in school libraries over the summer or fall.
The awards allow students to vote for their favorite book published between 2010-2012. For the Panda Awards of books published in 2011, 20 schools took part in the voting and 3,189 students cast their votes online. The votes have been counted and verified and the results of the Panda Awards 2011 are in. The winning books are:
We Are in a Book by Mo Willems – Younger Readers (EC-grade 2)
The Candymakers by Wendy Mass – Middle Readers (grades 3-5)
The Enemy by Charlie Higson – Older Readers (grades 6-8)
Bossypants by Tina Fey – Mature Readers (grades 9-12)
