Roundabout China, the Shunyi-based charity store, will hold its grand re-opening on Saturday, September 15. Its new location is on Yuyang Xilu (off Anhua Lu) behind the Yosemite Villa compound near the International School of Beijing (ISB). Billing itself as the first charity store in China, Roundabout supports 48 different charities throughout China with its non-profit charity store.
The day-long re-opening celebration, which starts at 9.30am, will feature fun activities as well as the chance to learn about Roundabout and the charities they support. Tour the new facilities, learn about the work Roundabout does, buy crafts made by represented charities, and find out how you can become involved in the organization and the greater community.
Roundabout will also kick off their book fair season this September. Their first book fair of the year will be held at the British School of Beijing’s Shunyi campus on Saturday, September 8. Children’s books will start at RMB 1, paperbacks at RMB 10, and hardcover books at RMB 20. Those who are unable to attend the fair on September 8 won’t totally miss out: books will still be available for sale at the BSB campus Monday through Friday between 9am and 3.30pm until September 28. Donations for the book fair can be dropped off that Roundabout’s new location Monday to Saturday between 9.30am and 5.30pm.
Founded in 2008 by expat Leslie Simpson, Roundabout accepts donations of good-quality household items, toys, electronics and more. Donated items sold at the store support the Roundabout store and charities, and cash donations are passed on directly to charities. Roundabout also works to match those who want to give with those who are in need, and frequently works with international schools in the Beijing community.
