Nicely Made in China recently interviewed Italian-born, Hong Kong-based designer Silvia Marlia. In the interview, she explains that her children’s furniture line Sand combines “an educational approach with a love for contemporary design."
She also reveals that it is the end result of her combined interests of Montessori education and design. And inspiration for the brand’s name was derived from childhood:
Sand reminds me of that special moment in childhood when everything is possible. You change, you go through transformations and sand is a bit like that. It can be shaped at will.
Ideal for ages 3-8, the furniture is designed to encourage kids to do everything by themselves – especially putting away their own clothes.
For now, only Hong Kong eco-boutique TREE carries Sand. When is it the mainland’s turn, Ms. Marlia?
