Living with or having a child with dyslexia can pose a new set of life challenges, but new research shows that with the challenges of dyslexia come a unique skill set. This school year’ second Parents as Learners (PAL) workshop at Beijing City International School (BCIS) will focus on the strengths and challenges that arise from dyslexia.
Dr. Reed Rhodes, elementary school learning support teacher at BCIS, will lead the workshop in an investigation of dyslexia through the lens of Six Thinking Hats, a book that encourages effective and innovative group thinking. During the workshop, titled “Being Dyslexic: A Two-Sided Neurological Coin,” Dr. Rhodes will explain the neurology behind dyslexia and some of the newest research that reveals strengths of the dyslexic brain.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, September 20 from 9.15am to 10.30am in the BCIS middle and high school cafeteria. The workshop is free and open to the public. To RSVP, please contact Yisha Niu in the marketing department at yisha.niu@bcis.cn or at 8771 7171 extension 5006.
