On Friday, September 21, students at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS) and other YCIS campuses gathered virtually and in reality to observe the 80th anniversary of the founding of YCIS. Together with the Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chongqing, Qingdao, and Silicon Valley in the US, YCIS Beijing students congregated in the school courtyard to view feed of the live ceremony in Hong Kong.
The morning began when Early Childhood Education (ECE) and primary students congregated for a sports competitions and a round of “Happy Birthday.” At noon, secondary students, teachers, and staff, all clad in blue anniversary t-shirts, convened in the courtyard to view the televised ceremony from Hong Kong. The ceremony started as everyone rose to sing the school hymn, followed by a welcome speech from YCIS Director Dr. Betty Chan Po-king, daughter of YCIS founder Madam Tsang Chor-hang. Following her remarks, students and alums cut a long ribbon and YCIS Beijing students released 80 red, white, and blue balloons into the air to mark the official beginning of the celebration.
