Vilma Busquets can be described as a “firecracker.” Gregarious and loving, this mom-of-two has called Beijing her home for the last two years. Her sons, Armando (age 15) and Salomon (13), both attend Beijing No. 55 Middle School, while her husband works as an editor for China Daily. Originally from Venezuela, Busquets lived in the US for 17 years before relocating to China with her family. When she arrived at Catherine de France Hair and Beauty Salon, it was obvious that her hair needed a lift. “My hair used to be very rich and heavy, but two thirds of it fell out when I hit menopause,” she says. Busquets admitted to only cutting her hair twice in the two years she’s been in Beijing. She gave Salon Manager Mehdi Moussaoui free rein to do whatever he wanted, but asked him to stay close to her natural hair color. When he was done, she had a fresh new look!

Moussaoui decided to dramatically shorten Busquet’s hair. “Are you sure?” he asked, scissors poised over her ponytail. “I’m sure!” she answered. He snipped most of her hair off in one fell swoop. Moussaoui then trimmed her bangs and added layers to the back. He used a razor to keep most of the volume on top – a great technique for curly hair that doesn’t get blow dried regularly.
Moussaoui respected Busquet’s wishes to stay close to her natural hair color. However, he opted to add lighter highlights for shine and definition. He used L’Oréal Light Brown for the base color and Touch of Sunlight for the ends. After shampooing, Moussaoui applied a small amount of TIGI Bed Head 3-in-1 (Thickifier, Energizer, Stylizer) and Bed Head Superstar Volumizing Leave-In Conditioner, then blow dried Busquet’s hair using a radial brush.
Makeup Artist Lina opted to bring out Busquet’s eyes and cheekbones. To start off, she prepped Busquet’s skin with Maybelline Superstay Soie in 16H. Using a powder puff, Li then applied a liberal dose of Vivianus loose powder onto her cheeks. While it was setting, she used a purple eyeshadow from MAC’s 5 Color Dazzle Shining 09 set, blending it into Busquet’s eye crease and brow line with brush and fingers. Li gave a bit more definition to her eyebrows by tweezing and applying black gel eyeliner and Estée Lauder Nourishing Mascara to her eyes.
