As soon as Halloween is over, many start planning for the Christmas season right away with decorations, bazaars, performance auditions and more. Check out the following events that focus on the holidays, as well as other ways to stay connected in our Shunyi neighborhood. And be sure stay tuned each week for more family-friendly occasions to help you enjoy the holidays!
Shop for trees, lights, cards, music and everything else you might need at Roundabout. Expats who move away from the area often do so without their holiday decorations, so this is a great place to get a bargain and help charities at the same time. Trees are approximately RMB 360 for a 7-foot size; RMB 60 for smaller ones.
Also at Roundabout, the next Book Fair is scheduled for Saturday, November 24 at the British REGO School from 10am-3pm. The last one raised a record RMB 203,000, the funds from which helped four children with immediate medical needs. What can we raise this month?! Roundabout does ask for book donations (especially children’s books), and they are looking for a variety of staff from floor employees to managers. If interested, contact Leslie Simpson at 137 1877 7761.
Plenty of activities at Green T. House Living in Shunyi – On Thursday, November 15 is the return of “Bling it On” – a vendor bazaar (10am-4pm) in a beautiful setting, tempting you to a delicious lunch buffet as well! And on Saturday, November 24 from 3-5pm, bring the family (up to four) for a pumpkin pie class! What a great activity to do together before the holiday! For RMB 250 (includes instruction and ingredients), enjoy the afternoon and make a grand dessert at the same time. For registration, e-mail t.classes@green-t-house.com or SMS 137 0130 9604.
Beijing United Family Hospital and Clinics (BJU) celebrates 10 years in Shunyi with an afternoon of entertainment and sweets, free for the public. Come join BJU on Saturday, November 17 from 11am-2pm in the Pinnacle Plaza courtyard (behind the clinic) for a family-fun day of balloons, magicians, face painting, Beijing treats and more!
If your family will be around for the winter break, you might consider signing the kids up for a fun theater camp. Beijing Playhouse Winter Kids Theatre Camp runs from December 17-29 – auditions are this Saturday, November 17 at 5pm at ISB. For enrollment information, send an e-mail to performance@beijingplayhouse.com.
Don’t miss BJU’s Dr. Richard St. Cyr for his seminar on “Ins and Outs of Immunizations: And Other Recommendations for Healthy Living in China.” This topic will be featured on Tuesday, November 20 from 9-10am in the elementary school lounge at WAB.
The much-anticipated annual WAB Charity Bazaar is just around the corner – Saturday, November 24 from 10:30am-3:30pm at the elementary school. A huge bazaar with countless vendors and everything holiday will get you in the spirit this season, with the bazaar beneficiaries being New Hope Foundation and Yearn to Learn. Many other charities benefit from sales at this event, including Operation Blessing and Migrant Children’s Foundation. On-site babysitting is available so you can shop ‘til you drop; live entertainment adds to the festivities of the day. For more information, contact charitybazaar@wab.edu.
