Who Am I – Family Play Center has opened its doors in Sanlitun SOHO. Featuring a bright and airy setup, it has a slide and climbing wall connecting its two floors for adventurous children, including a treehouse. FALC Receives 2012 China Award
Falc, a global footwear manufacturer that owns the brands Naturino and Coile Blache, received the Creator of Value Award from the Italy-China Foundation on November 29 in Milan, Italy. The jury recognized Falc as “one of the Italian companies to achieve the best performance in China” thanks to Naturino’s increasingly higher sales in China. Falc has been in the Chinese market since 2005, and has 80 shops in 20 cities in the country’s shopping malls.
Atelier Launches English Classes
Art school Atelier is launching English art classes for all ages in January. Classes are led by professional European and American teachers, all of whom are graduates from fine arts schools. Classes include Discover Visual Arts, Drawing from Darkness to Light, a weekly architecture class, and StoryBook Art.

Dulwich College Beijing Launches German First Language Program
Dulwich College Beijing has launched its German First Language program in partnership with Volkswagen. Petra Lemm Markus leads the program, which offers lessons to native or near-native German speakers from Years 6 to 13. The classes take place mostly after school. Students have already set up their own DCB German blog (www.dcbgerman.wikispaces.com), where they publish and celebrate their work, resources, and news for the German-speaking community. Some of the pupils are preparing for IGCSE and IB exams in German this academic year.
CISB Cellist Wins Young Musicians’ Competition
Namisa Sun, a cellist from the Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB), won first place in the Young Musicians’ Competition on December 1, 2012. The competition was held at Dulwich College Beijing, and competition among the seven semi-finalists – all from different international schools around Beijing – was intense. Namisa’s performance at the competition reflects her talent and hard work.
Essential Learning Group Partners with Eduwings
The Essential Learning Group (ELG) is partnering with Eduwings Kindergarten to provide support to children with special needs. ELG experts in education, development and behavior provided a full day of training to the Eduwings staff so they can help provide additional support to their students. The training included techniques for language development, implementing classroom rules, and behavior interventions, and the overall goal was to allow educators to feel confident in supporting children with special needs. ELG, which has provided services to Shanghai children with special needs since 2005, is slated to open in Beijing on January 15.
BSB Deputy Head of Primary to Publish Book
Kara Lenihan, the deputy head of primary at The British School of Beijing (BSB) in Shunyi, is awaiting the publication of her first children’s picture book, Mrs Vickers Knickers. It has been Lenihan’s lifelong dream to be published and her book has been some four years in the making. Lenihan will officially launch her book, which is being published by Egmont Press, when she flies back to the UK in June. Egmont has already sold foreign rights to a Korean publisher.
BJU Opens CBD Clinic
Beijing United Family Hospital (BJU) is opening its newest clinic in the CBD area. Located in the Vantone Commercial Center, the CBD clinic is the sixth satellite clinic for BJU and will be staffed by bilingual doctors and nurses committed to providing the high-quality, international-standard care. The clinic’s services will include family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery consultations, psychological health, and traditional Chinese medicine. The CBD clinic will also provide laboratory, pharmacy, and ultrasound services.
