Dora Xiang, grade one, knows how to spot problems, but the Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) student will also do something about those problems. The problem Xiang noticed was that students were wasting food in the school cafeteria, and she keenly noted that wasting food is a waste of the Earth’s resources. When she was encouraged to design a poster to take action, she upped the ante and instead designed three posters.
Her fellow classmates democratically decided on which of her posters they liked best, and that poster was printed and hung in the cafeteria. CISB’s IB Primary Years Program encourages students to take meaningful action, which Xiang so enthusiastically put into practice.
