Having a pet is undoubtedly a joy, but it is also a big responsibility. International Center for Veterinary Services (ICVS) is starting a new canine obedience training program for those who have rescued or adopted stray and shelter dogs. ICVS has always encouraged pet adoptions and these sessions will assist owners with a pet’s adjustment period and in turn, hopefully lead to more successful, permanent adoptions.
The Rescued & Shelter Dog Obedience Training Program is non-for-profit and all four session combined are valued at RMB 4,500. For qualified applicants with adopted shelter dogs, this fee may be waived. To support this program for the community, accepted participants are requested to make a donation of RMB 150 for each session to cover program administration costs and support medical care for humane animal welfare programs. Donations are welcome to support this non-for-profit program.
It’s a 8-hour course (four 2-hour sessions), conducted in both English and Chinese by certified canine obedience trainers and behaviorists. It covers basic obedience training, such as leadership, social walking and toilet training – as well as how to manage aggressive behavior and encourage your pet to bond with other pets.
Before participating in the training program, all the dogs must have been physically examined by an ICVS veterinarian, and be fully vaccinated, de-wormed and up-to-date on flea and tick preventatives.
Class sizes are limited. Email ICVS_CHINA@yahoo.com to apply and register. Inquirers will receive a schedule of classes. For more information, contact International Center for Veterinary Services.
