Some disturbing news in today’s Global Times – a foreign teacher at an English training school in Xicheng District has been arrested and charged with "sexually molesting a young boy."
The foreigner, 42, was an English teacher at an educational training school in Beijing. From October to November last year, he allegedly molested an 11-year-old boy … on several occasions.
News of child abuse in Chinese schools is not uncommon, but it is rare for a case to involve a foreign perpetrator. Details of this particular case are sketchy, but let’s hope that if the suspect is indeed guilty, he is properly prosecuted and there is no backlash against other foreign teachers.
