On Tuesday, April 2, teachers and students at the Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) showed up for school in pink shirts. Pink Shirt Day was a way for teachers and students to show their solidarity against students being bullied.
Before Pink Shirt Day, teachers engaged in lessons and conversations with students about how to recognize and prevent bullying. Pink Shirt Day is a nationally-recognized day in Canada, which started when a boy was bullied for wearing a pink shirt and two classmates, recognizing how wrong the bullying was, enlisted all their friends to wear pink shirts in solidarity. At CISB, the day culminated with students standing in the shape of a heart on the school’s soccer field to symbolize love and acceptance.
