Vlog: A video log. A journalistic video documentation, found on the web, of a person’s life, thoughts, opinions and interests. A vlog can be tropical and timeless, instructional and entertaining. The main idea is to communicate on a personal level with your audience.
W all know of Blogspot, Tumblr and MySpace, the three main blogging websites where users write down what they feel and have followers respond to their thoughts. If you are a part of any of these communities, then you will most likely know the more “famous” members of the website. However, if you are not part of the Vlogging community, then you are in for a treat.
The vlogging system is fairly different from the typical blog. You don’t have a page, but instead, a channel. You don’t have followers, but instead, subscribers and page views. You don’t write down your feelings, rather; you talk, shout, or even swear on a live video that records your thoughts and opinions.
A basic vlogger takes videos with their webcam, does some editing, and then uploads the video to their Youtube account, where it is ready to be searched up by the average high school student looking for ways to procrastinate.
However, a more experienced vlogger has over hundreds of thousands of subscribers, who virtually beg them to upload videos for their viewing pleasure. These videos don’t always have to be about daily life. They can consist of movie spoilers, challenges, music covers, or even just long-winded rants on social media.
Anyone can vlog: part of its appeal is in its simplicity and easy accessibility. However, if you lack inspiration or if you’re just looking for sheer entertainment, then check out these top five vlogs:
1. Kingsley: A flamboyant American university student who rambles about anything that messes with his day! He answers questions from his Tumblr and spoils movies. He is opinionated, funny, and blunt.
2. PewDiePie: A Swedish adult computer gamer who loves playing all video games, from the horror game “Slender” to the dance challenges on Nintendo Wii. His over-the-top reactions are nothing short of hilarious and he updates frequently!
3. JennaMarbles: An American woman whose videos are frank and relatable. Her makeup tutorials and impersonations of “What Men Do When Driving” make for great entertainment if you are ever bored!
4. JacksGap: A British university student named Jack, who vlogs about his personal experiences with traveling the world, his twin brother, and university life in general. If you like a British accent, then this is the vlog for you!
5. Equals3: Ray William Johnson hosts a weekly show called Equals 3 (=3) that tells the average YouTuber exactly what they are looking for: the best viral videos of the week. If you don’t have time to watch the full videos, Equals3 plays snippets of the parts you don’t want to miss!
