The Beijing snow of springtime has arrived, and the warmer temperatures are finding more people enjoying the outdoors (if allergies allow). From bazaars and spring fairs to Mother’s Day, here are some events to check out.
Pinotage Restaurant (Lane Bridge Villas across from WAB) is the location for a “Mum’s the Word” mini bazaar TODAY from 11am-3pm. Enjoy a glass of wine or lunch while you shop at the tables of nine select vendors. With Mother’s Day this weekend, treat yourself to jewelry, clothes, bags and more! Also, bring Roundabout donations as this will be a drop-off point. For lunch reservations, call 6430 7010.
Every year, the ISB Spring Fair draws thousands (yes, that’s right…thousands) of people to enjoy the day-long event. Free to the public, this indoor/outdoor spring fair from 10am-4pm has something for everyone – games for kids of all ages, food, entertainment, gift vendors, crafts, charities, a bake sale, raffle prizes, a book nook and so much more. Proceeds from game ticket sales to towards charity. Come one, come all!
The famous Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) classes begin in Shunyi at the campus of BSB – Saturdays from 4-7pm and Sundays from 1-3pm starting May 11 (complete schedule can be obtained by e-mailing counsellingwithnaomi@hotmail.co.uk). The P.E.T. approach is based upon looking at the needs of each individual, with skills taught to help reduce and resolve conflict through effective communication. Visit www.counsellingwithnaomi.com for a full description of the program.
What are your plans for Mother’s Day?! There are few things more pampering than the plans made at Green T. House Living. From 11am-3pm, enjoy a T-Cuisine brunch buffet with a variety of signature dishes for only RMB 40 per plate. Moms receive a glass of bubbly, the entire family can peruse gifts from invited vendors, and kids have plenty of activities to keep them happy. Add to all this the shoulder massage, makeup makeover and a family photo, what a fabulous Mother’s Day outing! Reservations are required: e-mail events@green-t-house.com or call 6434 2519.
Many of you jumped on the opportunity to enroll your children in the Beijing Playhouse summer theater camps, and now they are close to being sold out. For those a little bit behind in planning, don’t despair – they’ve added another one! This last camp, featuring the show Oliver Twist, runs from August 12-24 and has auditions on July 6 at 4pm. Go to www.beijingplayhouse.com for more information.
Sale! Sale! Sale! Making room for new items this spring, Tai Tai is running a current special on Pot Huggers – RMB 100 each to clear all stock. And next week they will start receiving inventory on fabulous toys from Pebble Child (www.pebblechild.com) and an incredible NGO in Bangladesh, so stop in and see what’s new!
Roundabout’s Leslie Simpson has done so much to help others with the work in her Roundabout Charity Distribution Store – and she’s the first to say she simply does not and cannot do it alone. Volunteers are the life-blood of the work they do. But with our busy lives, especially this time of year, it’s often hard for Roundabout to get the help they need – sometimes people hear “work” and don’t look at the personal joy they will themselves receive by giving their time to others. Please consider sharing your time by volunteering, and seeing how the act of giving back can really change your own perspective on life at the same time. E-mail Amy (amyroundabout@gmail.com) to see how you can become involved.
