A favorite treat from my childhood was when my grandmother would bring home pastries from the bakery. I can remember eating lady fingers, my hands sticky with sugar as I bit into a flaky roll filled with whipped cream filling. To my surprise and delight, one of The Sweet Spot’s most-loved pastries is their version – Cream Logs – and they are just as delicious as the sweets of my nostalgia-soaked past.
Last Friday, The Sweet Spot had a small ceremony with samples of their most popular confections, drinks, and lunch items to kick-off their new second location at China World Shopping Mall.
“Opened to benefit Beijing residents as well as our in-house clientele, The Sweet Spot is not only an alternative dining venue for our customers, but will enhance their experience at the China World Hotel with its new, fresh and trendy food and beverage concept,” said John Rice, general manager of the hotel.
The Sweet Spot is a young store, having only been in existence since February of last year, yet it has become widely popular. The desserts are both affordable and appetizing at around RMB 10-25 for sweets such as Cream Logs, macaroons, cupcakes, and fresh fruit. Don’t neglect the lunch selection, especially the buttery croissants and sandwiches. At only RMB 28, this midday option has spurred a large lunchtime office crowd from Guomao.
Whether one visits for the more Westernized tastes, or the promise of fresh and high-quality products, The Sweet Spot hits the spot for many customers.
