Tasty’s Is Back!
The popular cafe across from the exit of ISB was displaced last year when the building that housed it was demolished. In the interim, Tasty’s fans were still able to get the popular frozen goods from several locations in Shunyi. But now, a brand-new shop has opened. Much smaller than the last one (with seats for only 12 customers), Tasty’s nevertheless continues to offer sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, cookies, pizzas, chicken pot pie and apple pie. You can also bring back some frozen jiaozi and roubing to steam at home.

Opening Soon: Two Mystery Stalls
Also on Yuyang Lu, further back from the road than Tasty’s, two stalls are now getting ready to receive customers. One says “Bob’s Arts and Framing” and the other says “Fruit Lady Fruits & Vegetables”. Inside, there is a frenzy as shelves are set up and the store is laid out. Soon, you will know if they are worth adding to your list of regular businesses to patronize.
At the Car Wash, Yeah: An Update
China Car Wash (洗车王国) might seem like an ambitious business name. This facility is ready to welcome you and your car, with brand spanking new interiors, machine-operated power hoses and a uniformed staff. While your car gets a pampering, duck into any one of Roma Lake’s many restaurants. A basic wash for a sedan starts at a hefty RMB 128, or bring the cost down to RMB 70 by buying a membership card. Extra charges apply for bigger cars and additional services.

Sea Story: Seafood and Song
Right next door to China Car Wash, there’s a restaurant that specializes in seafood – very hard to come by in Shunyi. However, there’s no menu yet; the staff says that they will inform customers what is available each day – and promise to be able to do it in English as well. Let’s hope the seafood will not be caught at the man-made Roma Lake across from the restaurant. Come in the evening if you want to sit among locals and listen to the band, or duck in during lunchtime if you prefer a quiet meal.
