The Beijing Playhouse is putting on a production of The Wizard of Oz this holiday season and is auditioning for 20 adult roles and 10 roles for child actors.
According to the press release, the production, which will run from December 6-22, will be a "fairy tale for the children with a whole level of humor for the adults – a munchkinized Christmas musical comedy for adults and children alike. There’s no over-the-rainbow or follow-the-yellow-brick-road in this crazy show … Be prepared for a whole new zany twist on a classic story."
The production will be based on the British version, which has been staged in London’s West End for generations, and will feature a cast of 30 with "crazy Christmas costumes and happy music."
Audition dates are set for Sunday, September 22, 2013 and Monday, September 23, 2013 at 6.30 pm. Actors are asked to arrive on time (late arrivals are less likely to be cast). Call backs will be on Wednesday, September 25 (a second night of callbacks, if necessary, will be on Thursday, September 26.)
Auditions and rehearsals will be at The British School of Beijing in Sanlitun. Call-backs and performances will be at the National Olympic Sports Center Theater near the Bird’s Nest.
All 30 roles are open. Ability to perform in English is required; but English as a native language is not required. Interested actors should complete an Actor Audition Form in advance (request one at performance@beijingplayhouse.com).
