This summer, there are lots of places you can take the kids to play indoors like Fundazzle or Mitty Jump, but on that rare blue-sky day, you want to take the kids for a romp outside. One place you might not have considered spending a few hours is the Tayuan Diplomatic Residential Compound (DRC) to enjoy the playground and cool off in the water fountain.
Don’t let the security guards and signs requiring ID intimidate you, just head on in. When our group went, we met up at the Café Flatwhite located inside the compound for lunch before we all headed to the playground smack in the middle of the complex. It was a sweltering 40+ degrees that day, and though the kids enjoyed the outdoor equipment, they all looked longingly towards the water fountain that was switched off. Thankfully, at 3.00pm the fountain switched on and the children gleefully went about splashing and chasing each other with water.
When you go, don’t forget sunscreen, hats, a change of clothes, and a towel. The fountain is in the sun, so make sure you have plenty of drinks, but if you forget to bring your own, there is a little shop nearby. It is also a good idea for the kids to wear non-slip shoes or sandals. Our lot was barefoot and most of them fell at least once. If you don’t want to eat at Flatwhite, bring a picnic and enjoy the benches in the shade. It is a great place to spend an afternoon, and it won’t cost you a thing to get in.
