Annie’s, the homestyle Italian eatery that has stood the test of time over the past 14 years with its combination of Italian basics at reasonable prices alongside an unbeatable delivery service, has just opened its 10th location, this one their largest ever.
The 200-seat dining room on the east end of the CBD on Guanghua Lu, close to Sunshine 100 and Blue Castle, looks to continue the tradition of great pizzas, pastas and more in an unpretentious setting.
In a city where venues come and go in the blink of an eye and few if any can trace their roots back even a few years in the capital, Annie’s is a shining success. It’s menu – rooted in their still-revered pizzas – has been revised and expanded over the years, but never strayed from the basic formula of popular Italian dishes at moderate prices.
Though it’s been taken to task on occasion by some fine dining foodies as not authentically Italian, it’s popularity is unquestioned. The locally owned and operated chain has often walked away with the Best Italian award in theBeijinger’s annual Reader Restaurant Awards (as well as scoring top marks in other local media awards lists). And while it may not draw the Michelin Star junkies away from 5-star offerings in area hotels, the estimated 10,000 pizzas a week Annie’s serve is evidence enough of their popularity.
The new location is currently open at the eastern end of Guanghua Lu, opposite Sunshine 100 and the Winterless Center (8589 8366) for lunch and dinner but will be closed to the public Saturday, Dec 28 from 7pm onwards for a grand opening party.
