This week and the next, the International Car Show will take place at the Exhibition Center, bringing with it plenty of cars for show – and plenty of cars to cause complete chaos on the surrounding roads. BSB Shunyi is also having an Open Morning, providing an opportunity to prospective families to get a feel for the school, quiz teachers about the curriculum, and tour the facilities. If you think you have a pretty good general knowledge, why not put it to the test? Head to one of two (or both) quiz nights this week. They’re always fun, competitive, and induce participants into kicking themselves for not knowing quite as much as they thought they did. If all that brain power leaves you exhausted by the weekend, head to Pinotage for a relaxing Sunday brunch.
Traffic Woes
The International Car Show kicked off this week at the Shunyi Exhibition Center and will run until next Tuesday, April 29. Those of you who live in the the vicinity know that the bi-annual exhibition is the most popular in Shunyi and has an enormous impact on traffic in the area.
Some of the international schools have canceled after-school activities and re-scheduled pickup and drop-off times for school buses. Be sure to check with your child’s school, if you haven’t already. If you need to do some shopping or have some lunch, we highly recommend you avoid the Europlaza/Pinnacle Plaza area while the exhibition’s still on.
BSB Shunyi Open Morning
This Friday, April 25 from 8.30-11am, the British School of Beijing Shunyi is having an open day where you can take a tour, see the classrooms, talk to the teaching staff, and learn about the curriculum. Hear about the school’s examination results, sports facilities, music programs, German Primary School, EAL provision, and more. Visitors are welcome to visit classes in session in both the Primary and Secondary schools. There will also be the opportunity to talk to some of the prefects.
Trivia Night at The Garage
Every second and fourth Wednesday of every month, The Garage hosts a Trivia Night with drinking, eating, and trying to remember the name of the oldest UK prime minister and which country has the most Michelin-starred restaurants. Moms and dads, see how many liquid prizes you can win tonight from 8pm to 10.30pm.
Pub Quiz at Green Cap
Can’t make it tonight or not satisfied with just one pub quiz? Head to the Green Cap for their Thursday night quiz from 8.30pm to midnight. What better way to start the weekend (albeit a bit early)?
Sunday Brunch at Pinotage
Pinotage Shunyi now serves a wholesome and delicious brunch buffet every Sunday with a variety of South African dishes. beijingkids Shunyi Correspondent Sally Wilson moved to Beijing in 2010 from the UK with her husband and son. Her daughter was born here in 2011 and both her kids keep her happily busy. In her spare time, Sally loves to stroll through Beijing’s hutongs and parks. She is a (most of the time) keen runner and loves reading: books, magazines, news, and celeb websites – anything really. Sally is also a bit of a foodie and loves trying out new restaurants.
