Ever struggle to figure out how to use who’s and whose or lose and loose? This week’s app is going to help with that. The Right Word App helps to differentiate the commonly confused words in English. This app is developed by Dactyl Studios and is designed for middle and high school children. This app is good for younger children seeking a challenge as well.
Features
The words that are featured are homonyms, homographs, and words that are highly confused. This app have been developed in a game setting. For those who are prepping for SATs, GMATs, IELTS or TOEFL, as the words are tricky to place and the games are differently fast paced. The app has four games to choose from Picker, Spotter, Slider and Definer. Also, there are two modes to choose from WordFlow and Mad Dash.
The Picker is set so that you fill in the blank questions targeting proper grammar usage. The Spotter focuses on finding the sentence with incorrect usage and involves more reading than the Picker.
The Definer is pretty straight forward as you are given a definition and all you have to do is pick the correct form from the word box. The most challenging is the Slider. In this section you are given a paragraph with a word bank of 14 possible answers to choose from.
The graphics of this app are appealing yet not distracting. The other cool thing about this app is that there is a complete reference section that’s easy to navigate.
Drawbacks
As per the usual, you have to be connected to the internet for this to work effectively. Some of the questions become old really fast therefore you tend to figure out what is about to come next. Hopefully a new set of questions will be uploaded.
