Hey moms and dads, if you’ve got some time to kill tomorrow, now’s the chance to hone in those cooking skills. Aspiring chefs are invited to join a cooking demo class at Crowne Plaza Beijing Sun Palace’s restaurant, Rainbow Village (located on the fourth floor.) The first class, themed “Cheese Me Up” will be led by an artisan cheese expert, author, and founder of British Cheese Awards, Chef Juliet Harbutt, from the UK. “Taste of Italy” is the second class of the day and will be led by Chef Francesca Simoni of Italy who has one Michelin star. Guests will have the opportunity to cook with the chef while the chefs explain the procedures.

Cheese me Up: Thursday, July 26 10am-12pm. RMB 40
Juliet Harbutt is one of the world’s leading authorities on cheese. She created the British Cheese Awards 1994 and the Great British Cheese Festival in 2000. She was awarded Good Housekeeping Favorite Food Hero in 2000, Cotswold Life Food Personality of the Year 2008, and voted Dairy Person of the Year in 2006. She has made numerous appearances on television, radio, and book markets, including the World Cheese Book, which is published in eight languages. She also won best food book 2010 in the Guide of Food Writers Awards.
Taste of Italy: Thursday July 26 2pm-4pm RMB 500
Executive chef at Amerigo 1934 Trattoria, One Michelin star (since 1998), and restaurant of the year 2014 Bibenda Restaurant Gide (Italian sommelier foundation). During this gourmet festival, Francesca will bring the flavor of Emilia-Romagna to Beijing featuring prosciutto, parmigiano reggiano cheese, and freshly made pasta.
Crown Plaza Beijing Sun Palace’s cooking demo classes come as part of the hotel’s six day celebration called “Women Power the Culinary World.” For the week’s events, they have brought in 11 celebrated female chefs and three world renowned artists and fashion designers. The week’s events will culminate Friday and Saturday evening at the hotel from 6-9 pm with a charity event and a gala dinner, respectively. Guests can enjoy dinners, cocktails, a fashion show, an auction, and more.
All funds raised during the charity dinner will go to the Intercontinental Hotel Group’s Hope Fund. International Hotel Group (IHG) set up of the IHG Hope Fund in 2007 and became a corporate partner of the China Youth Development Foundation, also known as Project Hope. Money will go to support young dropouts in poverty-stricken areas through Hope Schools, vocational education, and scholarships for college and university students.
