Last Friday, Daystar Academy celebrated a school-wide holiday event as well as the school’s teacher and staff appreciation day. The celebration was held in the afternoon and was a special day for Daystar. The school’s parent organization, StarParents, organized the day’s festivities in which teachers, administrative staff, kitchen staff, ayis, bus drivers, monitors, and security guards were invited to respective designated class rooms. Within each classroom, students took part in a special program for staff and shared treats prepared by the parents for the teachers such as homemade cupcakes, pastries, and fresh fruit.
Grade 1A and B students read poems, Grade 4A and 4B performed short plays, and Casa B kindergarten students painted. Each staff member received a small, wrapped gift with their name on it.
“The staff appreciation event sponsored by StarParents and organized by the class parents last Friday was remarkable. I walked around the school and saw that what was happening in each classroom was very different, but in every single one, the amount of work and thought that had gone into the preparation and presentation by parents and children was touching and beautiful to see. I have never seen so many teachers in tears at once,” says Suzy Wong, head of school.
