This weekend, Savvy and I managed to move heaven and earth within our household and arranged for our kids to be looked after so that the two of us could get away for a night to commemorate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We opted for an overnight stay at East. We had a quiet corner room in the hotel, a delicious sushi dinner at Hagaki, followed by some tasty drinks at Xian. We even managed to catch a movie at the CGV cinema in Indigo Mall – our first night out to a movie since before the twins were born 2 and half years ago. All of this was followed by a blissful night of uninterrupted sleep.
The following morning, we had plans for brunch at Feast with our kids and one other family. Unbeknownst to us, our friends changed our brunch plans to include six other families that have been a bedrock of support while living here. It was a surprise for us to see so many of our friends, though, as usual, we spent most of the time looking after our own kids. Sigh, just another year or two and twins should be much more independent.
Despite the presence of two photographers and dozens of mobile phones, we all had such a good time that I don’t think any of us took a single photo to mark the occasion. No matter. We had a great time and afterwards the kids enjoyed playing outside while the remaining adults huddled in the shade.
Savvy and I spent time reminiscing about our accomplishments over the past twenty years and we decided it would be futile to try and map out the next twenty. Instead, we contemplated what we would do over the next five. One thing is for sure, for our 25th Anniversary, we will spend more than one night out on our own. That is, of course, if we can align the planets in our favor. Or find a suitable sitter to watch over them.
