Students are off to an active start after week one at Canadian International School of Beijing’s Summer Camp. With the combined efforts from the camps’ activities team, educational assistants, camp assistants, and teachers, CISB Summer Camp Principal Gary Anderson says opening day “kick-off” was a success. During the week, CISB’s teaching staff led the students through various educational activities to help them transition into each of their classes. Over 250 students joined the school for the first camp so far, one of the school’s best years yet. Anderson gives an overview of what CISB summer campers are getting up to.
Kindergarten Camp: Under the theme “Summer Fun,” the kindergarten children went through rules and routines of the classroom, shared and played together, completed listening activities, and participated in group discussions in phonics, learning letters, and animals pertaining to the theme. They played games and listened to stories as well as created their own sun visors and sun glasses to take home. In PE class, the kindergarten children played a variety of games using foam balls. During music, they sang, and got moving and grooving while using instruments such as egg shakers, rhythm sticks, and bells.
The Enrichment Camp: Themes – My Class/FamilyESL (A) Classes completed exercises with many new words, talked about themselves and daily routines, family and friends. The (B) Classes worked on writing, listening, speaking and reading comprehension exercises. Both Classes A and B started practicing for their July 17, 2015 assembly.
The Enhancement Program (Math & English/IELTS): English-synonyms/rhyming words/wrote poems for sharing/reading and display. Math: Trigonometry/radical equations/magic squares. Math: Fractions/measuring units/magic squares/area of rectangles/2-step equations with integers.
The children enjoyed their Culture Classes as well with activities including skating at Solana, Kung Fu, swimming, Chinese instruments, sports classes, and soccer.
