Do you look forward to international day at school because of the food? Do you travel the world to eat? Well, if you do, you’re probably not the only one. For you, our sister publication, thebeijinger, will bring the International Food Weekend to Sanlitun SOHO on August 13 and 14 —a festival of worldly food and live music from 11am-8pm.
This event brings bite-sized food from all around the world to a single place. There will be over 20 different cuisines represented by over 60 vendors from all over the city. In the spirit of exploration, each attendee will be issued an event passport to be taken from vendor to vendor. When you purchase something new, you may get a stamp on your passport, show off your passport full of stamps to our company representatives, and you’ll be able to collect a prize to remember the weekend.
Live music and performances from different cultures in conjunction with the cuisines from across the world. We recommend this event for kids 6 and older, and want to note that parents use their own personal discretion as the Bar and Club Awards are set to be held on Saturday evening starting at 4pm. Parents hesitant about the rowdiness of the crowd should make their way out before then.
For Sunday’s festivities, we baked up an idea to hold a bit of friendly competition with a Cupcake Eating Contest for parent and kid two man teams. The rules are quite easy. First, no milk or water allowed when mouths start to dry up from quickly scarfing down the beautiful, flowery goodness of BON CAKE cupcakes. Second, parents will sit with their arms folded behind their backs at all times. Third, blindfolded kids must feed parents cupcakes with their arms outstretched over their parents’ shoulders.
Just think, how much accuracy will these kids have if they haven’t been practicing their blind-as-a-bat coordination since their last field day at school?
Please note that kids need to be at least 6 years old to enter the contest accompanied by a willing, hungry adult. The event will be happening at 1:30pm on Sunday and the prize is still being cooked up – although we promise it will be good for all those who wait. Winners will get the chance to appear on the cover of beijingkids magazine in a future edition. Register by emailing marketing@truerun.com ASAP before this Saturday, as we’re only giving out 10 of these team spots!
If you’re satisfied with the foodie exploration or just want to come to see the frosting carnage, keep in mind that pre-sale tickets come at a discounted price! Bring your family and friends. It’ll be more than a meal. It’ll be a party. It’ll be a weekend to remember—for your stomach.
