There are hundreds of animals hoping to find loving homes in Beijing. If you are considering adopting a pet, check out Doggy/Moggy of the Week, where we will feature animals from volunteer shelters, animal rescue groups, foster care providers, and pet owners needing to rehome animals. This week’s adorable kitten, is Dou Dou from ICVS’ Adoptable Pets.
Name: Hi Everyone, my name is Dou Dou!
Background: I am a 3-month-old male kitten who was found lying on the ground with an injured front leg after a rainstorm. My kind rescuer brought me to ICVS where I was carefully examined and x-rayed by my veterinarians. My front right leg was broken, I had six broken ribs, my chin was injured, and my lip was cut. I was a mess! But, what my doctors found most concerning was that I did not have any sensation in my right leg and could not even tell that my paw was being pinched. My ICVS vets took good care of me every day while I was at the hospital recovering from my many injuries. After a week of acupuncture treatments and acupressure massage on my right leg, there was still no improvement and still no sensation.
So after a specialty consultation with a board certified orthopedic surgeon and neurologist from the US, it was confirmed that I had suffered permanent nerve damage in my leg, meaning I would never regain the use of my leg. My doctors at ICVS performed surgery to amputate my permanently damaged leg, and I have been recovering and resting comfortably at the hospital ever since. I am eating and drinking well and using the litter box.
I am now fully recovered from surgery and am a strong and healthy kitten. I am running and jumping on my three legs. I was also neutered and have started on my vaccinations. I may be a tiny kitten, but I have a big brave heart, and I will live a normal, happy, and healthy life, giving my future adoption family lots of love and joy!
ICVS enrolled me into their Non-Profit Humane Animal Welfare Programs and has donated their services for much of my care, including examinations, digital X-rays, consultations with USA board certified orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons, acupuncture treatments, acupressure massage, and most of the costs for my pre-surgery hospitalization. I hope the community will donate to help cover the cost of the surgery materials and medical supplies: drugs, vaccines, and the several weeks of post-surgery hospitalized care and food that helped me make a full recovery.
Post-adoption care: The International Center for Veterinary Services (ICVS) has enrolled me into their Rescued/Stray/Rehomed Pet Adoption Benefits Program. ICVS will provide my new family with significant discounts (up to 50 percent) on my vaccinations and accompanying health examinations during my first year of life with my new adoption family.
ICVS Annual Vaccination Packages: ICVS has wonderful wellness and annual vaccination packages to keep me healthy and free of parasites, fleas, and ticks. All of the vaccinations I need annually are included with a 40-50 percent discounted price. Please contact ICVS for more information.
Official Vaccination Certificate: With my rabies vaccination, ICVS will issue my new family the official Beijing Animal Health and Immunity Certificate (e.g., vaccination red book) at no charge! I need the official vaccination red book to prove I have been legally and properly rabies vaccinated to move to another city or to leave China with my family.
Pet Import/Export Counseling: ICVS will provide my family with unlimited relocation counseling and accurate information to take me with them when it is time to move to another city or country. ICVS can provide microchipping, legal rabies vaccinations, and rabies antibody titer testing that is required to export pets to the EU and other countries!
Door-to-Door Pet Transport Service: ICVS can help my new family arrange for a car and driver service to take us door-to-door for my appointments at the hospital.
ICVS Non-Profit Humane Animal Welfare Programs: Please support and donate to the ICVS Non-Profit Humane Animal Welfare Programs. Your donations support ICVS in helping the many pets like Dou Dou and the many stray/rescued/abandoned and shelter animals in our community. The pets receive medical care, treatments, good nutrition and socialization with love and compassion that allows them to become healthy adoptable pets.
