With atrocities continuing throughout Syria, civilians are now having to start battling winter too, with many lacking access to housing, medical care, food, or sufficient clothing. A group of international artists have gotten together to raise money and awareness about the dire humanitarian situation currently gripping the country this December 11, 5-11pm atDDC.
The event, titled SyriArt Artists for Syria, will include six bands and a silent auction of 32 artworks donated by 12 artists. For more information about the acts themselves, check out the full event listing here.
Proceeds (including a RMB 100 entry fee) will be donated to the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
Awareness is also important. To learn more about how the conflict in Syria has arisen and why it’s in the current state it’s in today, check out this quick piece in The Atlantic. To follow developments as they develop, we highly recommend Al Jazeera’s ongoing Syria coverage. Most recently they published an in-depth piece about the Syrian city of Aleppo, where 250,000 civilians are currently besieged.
For a list of charities with access to Syria (ranked, with IRC receiving the highest rating) check out this guide on charitynavigator.org. It’s important to ensure that your donations are going to charities with access to affected areas, as mobility is currently very limited.
