We’ve heard that moms all around the city are looking to whip their bodies into shape for the summer holiday. I can’t blame them. After the holiday yo-yo, then the winter blues yo-yo, my body has taken a food beating. I’ve got a craving for chocolate that turns me into a desperate monster; I get mean. I can usually beat the craving in the long summer months because the sun makes me so happy, but the winter pollution makes me so sad I can’t stand it.
Knowing the needs of other ladies out there (okay, and myself too) I went through the painful challenge of reviewing a free Pilates trial class for you.
The location is a bit difficult to find – you’ll need to go to the north side of the apartments to enter into the lobby, then turn right to find the studio room where Sabina starts class right on time. If you’re coming to class but don’t live in the area, you can take a shower. If you bring your own lock, you can lock your stuff there, or you can stow it in the class as long as there is enough room.
Sabina has been a trainer for 12 years, most of her experience in native country, Germany, and has had four kids of her own – and with how great of shape she’s in – moms can trust her while they’re pregnant with the modifications she gives or with kicking up the intensity. She is certified by German Landes und Turnerbund with additional qualifications from other institutions, including to teach yoga with children. She frequently walked around the class to correct form and also wanted us to let her know if we had any previous injuries or surgeries. The only downside is that English isn’t her first language, which means it might take a second to understand her instructions. That’s not a big deal to me, though, since she demonstrates every move.
I would recommend this class to those who are in the beginner to intermediate level, though her other classes are at different levels. I enjoy Sabina’s personality and the variety she offered. She promised she’d offer plenty of variety, changing from classic to power Pilates to other types of Pilates I hadn’t heard of.
I went to the class at Park Apartments, but she offers two other classes at two different locations.
These are a few photos of the Mommy and Baby Fitness class provided by Sabina.
Clearly it’s a supportive environment!
