The beijingkids 2017 May Home and Relocation Guide is now being distributed throughout the city and is also available for download.
We asked for a great deal of help from our parenting board and from parents who had just moved to the city. We tried our best to figure out what needs to be known for those who are relocating or settling in to the city for the first time. Most notable was the feedback that the type of expat families who are moving here or who are deciding to stay long term are hoping to start entrepreneurial endeavours. We looked into aspects of this by interviewing a couple of business sources and by investigating how to set up a WeChat shop.
We ourselves have experienced Beijing’s app boom through WeChat Wallet, ordering services, and ridesharing platforms, so we took a look at how to set up some of these apps and also rounded up our favorite essential apps.
Along with these topics, we looked at schools, neighborhoods, play areas, birthing in Beijing, pet relocation, culture shock when it slips into racism, online shopping tips and tricks, creating community, setting up a bank account, pollution, health insurance, and more.
We couldn’t pack everything for a move into one issue, so we also included curated QR codes that would lead to further resources on our site.
