It’s hard to have a regular date night, when you’re a parent and you work; especially as an international family, away from other relatives that can take care of your child while you take the night or a few hours with your partner to get together and have some time for each other. This is extra hard for the wife of a chef, who never has time off. We got lucky when my parents where in town, and my husband stayed awake for the night.
There are a few benefits of date nights, especially for parents. This is what I found out: a date night is an opportunity to communicate with your partner, which can deepen your understanding of one another, and the relationship. It can make your sense of commitment to each other stronger. Date nights can be a way to relieve stress; spending time together outside of normal life can be rewarding. Just having some good old fun without your kids is pretty priceless.
We went to a cool Japanese restaurant called Beyond Yakitori in Topwin Center, and indulged in several small dishes: a variety of meats on sticks, chicken liver and meatballs dipped in egg yolk, some delicious salads, and a scotch egg, one of the best dishes of the night. For me, having worked as a chef for 15 years, and my husband who is still working as a chef, it’s an entertaining spectacle watching other people cook. Beyond Yakitori is a fun spot for a date night. Make sure to get a seat at the bar where they have a flaming hot grill to see all the action going down.
They have a great cocktail list, and I sampled a sparkling wine with some pink raspberry coulis, while my husband tried drinking all the beer they own. All in all a successful night, recommended to all parents.
