I have been on a bit of a mission to try out different spas and salons to get my pretty back this summer. Staying calm and looking fresh is my new mission, as I bike through Beijing. The city has plenty of great spots to get pampered. We all need some help looking and feeling our best, and I have tried out some treatments and will be sharing my experiences. The last few months I got a bit excited coloring my hair, and damaging it while I was at it. My locks started to frizz. I have no time to be taming my locks every day, so I searched for a solution. I heard a mother friend telling me about a treatment that she had had, restoring her hair’s natural shine and eliminating the frizz; a treatment that lasted longer than one wash.
I head to Blow+Bar in Sanlitun for a Mother’s Day pampering. The salon has a red, sleek and clean interior, with jazz sounds creating a relaxing space to get your hair done. I meet with the salon owner and she explained the treatment. Our hair has keratin in it already, but because of hair coloring and the elements, it leaves our hair. This special treatment will restore the keratin in my hair, adding volume and sleekness to my frizz.
My hair gets washed and my head receives a massage, then we start applying the keratin. Its a bit like getting a coloring done as it takes a bit of time. First it gets applied on the roots of my hair, then after a while it gets applied to the tips of my hair, focusing on the baby hair frizz that has been a thorn in my eye since forever. I sit for about three hours, relaxing and chatting with the founder of the salon, Ashley Soh.
Soh is a mother of two, wife and business owner. She owns salons in Singapore and Jakarta; she is a inspiring mother to talk to. We speak about juggling motherhood and a career, a balance that is hard to make, especially for Soh, traveling back and forth from Singapore to Beijing to oversee her latest salon in Sanlitun.
After the treatment my hair gets washed and styled, it and looks and feels amazing. I purchase special shampoo to keep the keratin in my hair. The test is of course a week later, when it still looks great and feels softer than before. The baby hair is still not frizzy and it’s simpler than ever getting my hair tamed in the morning. If your hair is frizzy and needs love after too much bleaching, heat, and Beijing water. I can say that a keratin treatment is a great solution to get it back to a manageable do.
Multitasking is something we mothers have to do, and while you get your hair done you can also do your nails, and drink. The salon has a bar and provides wine or bubbles to get you into the party mood. It seems like the perfect unwinding experience to get your hair done while letting your hair down.
The treatment lasts three to five months and it will gradually wears out so there is no hard line when your hair grows out. Treatments with keratin range from RMB 1280 to RMB 2480 with a extra 30% discount in the month of May. Getting ready for the summer was never so easy.
