One part of traveling that I find the most difficult is buying gifts or souvenirs for my friends and family. It is time-consuming and most of the time, I end up buying such superficial stuff (like fridge magnets) that I tell myself, “Hey Andy, c’mon, you can do better than that!”
I’m preparing for a short trip outside of China this October National Day Week, and then visiting my country for a week to see my family and some close friends. Actually, I already bought gifts for them: a bunch of fridge magnets I collected during my trip to Russia and the UK last year. I think I can still get away with those, but I know some friends might ask, “Where’s your gift from China?”
Okay, it makes sense. I should have something from China and that must not be another magnet. I struggle with this one, but there’s a magic word that I almost forgot: Taobao. Yes, the miraculous platform which can deliver your gift without a sweat.
Temple of Heaven 3D wooden model

Peking Opera cycle helmet

Because the share-bike industry in China just keeps soaring like the high-pitched voice of a Peking opera singer. When your friends visit Beijing and find out that Mobikes, Ofos, and Bluegogos are not as fun without safety gear, give them this fab helmet for a truly operatic cycling experience on the streets of ol’ Peking!
Folding fans

As cliché as these may seem, folding fans are a cool gift. Especially when you open them with style.

Aside from the Great Wall, what else is China known for? Pandas. In fact, there’s a term called panda diplomacy, and you can bring these creatures home in the form of a silver coin.
