Luckily, we have plenty of markets and bazaars going on throughout the weeks leading up to the holidays to make sure your stockings are stuffed with unique items that can’t be found anywhere else besides Beijing. So make sure your WeChat wallets are packed with virtual RMB and get ready for a maniacal month of casual commerce throughout the city.
Beijing Flea Market, Dec 9
All ages. For creative, artsy gifts with a more of a hutong scenester vibe, try The Beijing Flea Market. It’s held at everyone’s favorite home design and décor shop, Pop-up Beijing, combined with specials at Preface Hair Salon for a more all-inclusive, relaxing day. Grab a glass of mulled wine and get awesome, locally handmade jewelry, food products, and designer goods, like the kitschy-cute vintage Chinese goods from vendor Mooncake Vintage. Free. 12-6pm. BSB, Shunyi’s Christmas Fayre & German Market, Dec 9
All ages. The British School of Beijing, Shunyi is hosting its annual Christmas Fayre and German Market. Enjoy performances from the school choir, homemade holiday decorations for sale, games, and the lighting of the Christmas tree, as well as an authentic German Christmas market atmosphere. A significant part of the fayre is the Grand Charity Raffle. This year, all proceeds will go to Educating Girls of Rural China and 5 Loaves and 2 Fish. Free. 4-8pm. The Hutong Winter Fayre, Dec 10
Fayre is an old English word describing a fun gathering featuring a range of locally produced goods made and sourced from and connected to the local community. The products on offer range from our homemade jams, teas, baked goods and chocolates to handmade handicrafts, photography, jewelry, paintings, experiences, unique cards and more. The Hutong Winter Fayre is a place to catch up with friends and enjoy the holiday spirit and promises to be a fun day out for the whole family.
Farm to Neighbors Christmas Market, Dec 16-17, 23-24
All ages. The much beloved monthly Farm to Neighbors Market is holding its annual Christmas Market on two different weekends: December 16-17 and 23-24, so there’s no excuse not to bring a couple of canvas totes and stop by for some organic veggies and more. Grab some healthy, fresh produce from local farms, artisanal edibles, homemade cheese, soaps, coffee and tea, eco-friendly gifts, handicrafts, and more. Free. Located on B1 of the Grand Summit, Liangmaqiao, #19 (below Baker and Spice)
CK Treasure Trove, Dec 23-24
All ages. Join the CK Treasure Trove vendors for a hugely Christmassy market! With lots of festive food, drink, gifts, and kids’ activities provided by over 40 vendors, you’ll find everything you need to get into the Christmas spirit – and buy some last-minute gifts. Many vendors ranging from Phoenix Design (ceramics), Liuba Draws (Beijing-inspired art), and the CK Culture Boutique (Chinese cultural gifts) will also be offering special holiday deals as well!
