Few things make you feel better than a new hairstyle. Except maybe a new hairstyle and a nice glass of wine.
Now Blow+Bar, who specialize in providing both of these things, are offering a hairstyling and a glass of wine for only RMB 70 – and it’s all in a good cause! What could be better than that?
The “Charity Blowout” takes place at Blow+Bar’s Shunyi branch, at Pinnacle Plaza, on Saturday January 20, from 4pm to 8pm. This is not a one off event but part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting women and girls, according to Blow+Bar founder Ashley Soh.
“In Singapore we support two different charities: a breast cancer foundation, and a charity supporting abused women and pregnant teenagers. We support them in finding a home, we even offer to teach them hairdressing, to give them a chance of having a job in a safe environment.”
The first Beijing event is in aid of Educating Girls in Rural China (EGRC).
“I was researching for a charity to support,” Soh told us, “because I want to do something long term. This was one of the charities we came across, and it resonates very well, because it’s about giving women a voice.
“In rural China there’s still very strong male superiority. Girls often have no voice, no education, and their parents get a dowry to sell them off in marriage. I hope to create awareness as well as raising money.”
But the event isn’t just for women.
“Anybody who’s interested is welcome,” Soh said, “to make friends and mingle, whether you’re having your hair done or not. Families can come – it’s good for kids to be aware of these issues. And the styling isn’t limited to men or women! We can do braids for the girls, and cool looks for the boys. We’ll have orange juice as well as bubbly. It’s going to be a fun family event!”
