Many young Chinese parents choose to leave their children with their grandparents when they are away on business trips. However, Chinese grannies seemingly have an entirely different way to look after the little ones from these young parents. And the parents often shockingly react “Oh my god, is this my kid?” afterwards.
One netizen posted a group of photos showing how totally different her daughter looks before and after staying with her granny, which triggered lots of “hahahas” among netizens.
The Weibo blog goes “I left my daughter with her granny during my 3-month business trip abroad. After I got back from the trip, I can barely recognize my toddler. She has grown much bigger, seems like all her granny cares about is to feed her as much as possible. My daughter’s appetite grows a lot as well.”
The blogger also attached a group of photos of her daughter before and after staying with the granny as well.
The funny post became a source of more banter on Weibo posts from netizens who experienced a similar situation. While Zhang Ziyi, a famous actress and model, also joined in the banter to post on Weibo a group of “before and after” photos of her two-year-old Xingxing.

Amidst all the banter, there were also lots of comments standing up for these grannies: “Young parents care more about their children looking good, but grannies care more about them being warm and healthy.”
