March 14 was a day of great loss. British scientist Stephen William Hawking, was gone.
As a global household name, Hawking is recognized and highly respected for his passion, and his unique life philosophy, besides all his great scientific achievements.
Hawking set up his Weibo account in 2016 and since then, he has had nearly 5 million followers. His last Weibo post was a response to a question by Wang Junkai, an 18-year-old Chinese singer and actor, one of the members of popular band TF Boys.
The post attached a short video giving a very detailed answer, which read: “It has granted me insight into the thoughts and curiosities of Chinese millennials regarding the future. It is this curiosity and confidence that I hope to see grow as you pursue science and other creative ideas, and which will be celebrated in the Tencent Next Idea Innovation Contest. Let’s look to the future together. ”
The Weibo post got 284,486 likes, 92,877 comments, and 77,857 reposts.
Many of the netizens commented: “It’s such a touching co-existence that a globally venerable physicist talks to an 18-year-old Chinese popular star. He was not only responding to Wang. Wang is only a representative of the whole young Chinese generation.”
Lots of Chinese celebrities, including Wang Junkai, took to Weibo and paid their tributes to Hawking. Wang posted: “My deep tribute to Mr. Stephen Hawking. You belong to the universe. I’ll keep your words in my mind forever”.
