I am always ready to try new things, and last week was no exception. My trusted friend invited me to her “Favorite Things” party. Of course I wanted to see what this was; the amount of fun things you can do when organizing your own gatherings is endless, and I am always looking for inspiration. My “Favorite Things” party is based on Oprah’s “Favorite Things” episode around Christmas where she gives away her favorite things. This party was not that expensive, luckily.
The gist of the party is to share your favorite things with other people while making friends. The theme for this party was “Beijing Favorites.” The idea is to purchase four of your favorite things and take them to the party. After some drinks and mingling, one person starts to showcase their favorite thing – my friend chose a nice mug that made her feel warm and fuzzy. Then she would pick three names out of the envelope, and and they would receive her favorite thing, while the fourth favorite thing would be up for auction for charity at the end of the night. Each person walks away with three “favorite thing” gifts from others. We had a wide spectrum of Beijing goodies: a bag from the pearl market, dumplings, creams and goblets.
We all wrote our favorite things on a board for inspiration, very beijingkids style. Looking for a fun pastime while raising money and making friends in Beijing? This is a cute idea that keeps the expat ladies off the street!
