We’ve all done it – hiding from our children. I remember playing hide and seek, and my then two-year-old just forgetting about me, so I spent 20 blissful minutes behind the door. Another mother told me recently she takes extra long poops just to have some peace. I thought this was so funny that I started to think about the places I have hidden for some peaceful times.
Behind the door
When my daughter first started playing hide and seek, she would often forget that we were playing and get distracted. Many minutes of relaxing behind the door till she remembered that I was gone.
Toilet
Sneaking off to the toilet is a go-to for many mothers. The door usually locks and we can spend extra time browsing our phones.
Kitchen
Many times I have hidden inside the kitchen to snack on some chocolates. Sometimes my daughter has caught me after hearing the rustle of wrappers.
Work
When I returned to work after pregnancy leave I was so happy to have some time for myself. Colleagues would ask me what I did on my day off. I would respond, “This is my day off!”
Hiding places remind me that it’s OK to find some time for myself, and we should take care of our motherhood – life balance. What is your secret hiding place?
