“Der Elefantenpups”, Aug 16-17
This Chinese-language show for kids and families follows a young panda named Mei Yue who is new to the zoo. This little panda is homesick and wants to return to China, so the other animals make a plan to cheer her up with some music! This show is appropriate for children over the age of two.

Popopolska, Aug 16-18
Four “Toy Music” artists edit four short Polish animations, and improvise the melancholy, lively, and illusive soundtrack for these highly visual animations. In addition to your standard toy piano, xylophone, vibraphone, and flute, the unexpected additions of accordion, gramophone, a mini electric guitar, and ukulele are added for dramatic effect. The artists make the most of their live soundtrack creations to add life and a bit of spontaneity to these already vibrant and colorful animations.

Roundabout’s Children’s Flea Market, Aug 17
Head over to Shine Hills this Saturday and pick up an array of gently used items for a good cause. You will find everything from household goods, children’s toys, and books at great prices. Roundabout is a social enterprise headed by volunteers. Started in 2008, they were the first charity store in mainland China, and now give support to 48 charitable organizations in the Beijing area and many more throughout China, Inner Mongolia and Mongolia.

3d Printing Summer Boot Camp, Aug 17

Puppet Theatre Company of Jiangsu Province “The Magic Treasure Box”, Aug 17-18
Founded in 1957, the Puppet Theatre Company of Yangzhou has inherited the longstanding, magnificent and miraculous tradition of the Chinese art of puppetry, making a name for itself at home and abroad. Since its establishment, the troupe has produced and staged many large-scale puppet shows, including Jade Flower Fairy, Snow White, and dozens of small or medium-scale shows including those adapted from Chinese and foreign masterpieces.

Leandro Erlich: Confines of the Void, Now-Aug 25
The works of conceptual artist Leandro Erlich being presented at the CAFA Art Museum from July 11 to August. As the largest Leandro Erlich solo exhibition to date, spanning 25 years of Erlich’s career, and showcasing 20 large-scale interactive installations, the exhibition brings an all-round participatory art experience for the audience.

The Beatles: Beat On, Now-Sep 15
All ages. The Beatles were a legendary rock group that formed in Liverpool, England, in 1960, and went on to transform popular music into a creative, art form over the next decade. As one of the most popular bands of all time, they wrote songs like “Yesterday,” “Hey Jude,” “Penny Lane,” “With A Little Help From My Friends,” “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown),” “Day Tripper” and “Come Together.” Apart from the music, the exhibition is also a panoramic look back into the Beatles’ golden era of the 60s.

Ways of Seeing at Chao, Aug 16-Oct 6
Ways of Seeing is a showcase, a manifesto of sorts, of an art that focuses on the human condition. CHAO Art Center is pleased to announce that the 2019 Annual Art Exhibition “The Way of Seeing” will open on Aug 16 and continue until Oct 6. The exhibition features 17 acclaimed individuals and groups of contemporary artists from China and abroad.

Lucy Sparrow’s Felt Art Imaginarium, until Oct 11
All ages. This summer, M WOODS presents 70 masterpieces recreated by Lucy Sparrow, one of the most exciting and innovative artists in the UK today. Each piece was hand-crafted from the annals of art history and covered the entirety of the museum in her signature, colorful felt. Having received worldwide attention for felt installations in London, New York, and Los Angeles, Lucy Sparrow’s Felt Art Imaginarium marks the artist’s debut in Asia, and creates an immersive installation commissioned specifically for this Beijing gallery.

NBA Exhibition: Unstoppable Beijing, Jul 13 – Oct 13
Aimed at showcasing the excitement of the game and the rich history of the league, the NBA is launching its touring exhibition in Beijing. By using interactive exhibits, video, and exciting memorabilia, the multi-level experience will showcase the passion of the league, its teams and players, and will explore the many ways the NBA has evolved since its founding in 1946.

Japanese Animation & Studio Ghibli Manuscript Exhibition, Now-Aug 29
Studio Ghibli is best known for its animation feature films, with notable pieces like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, which are loved widely by many. Polar Bear Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of rare production celluloids – original artworks featuring some of the fascinating scenes from these celebrated films, traditionally hand-drawn before the advent of computer animation.
