Back to school time sure might sound like the end of summer, but it doesn’t mean it has to be the end of fun! Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) held their first community Welcome BBQ of the academic year last Friday, attracting hundreds of new and returning families to come together and celebrate by having a back to school welcome party. With a diverse community made up of over 45 nationalities, the event is one of the most loved events at YCIS Beijing.
There were several booths for both kids and adults to taste international cuisine such as döner kebabs, sausages, hotdogs, skewers, bakery, and organic bread and jam. The broad range of foods satisfied the appetites of all ages.
The picnic featured a variety of entertaining games on the field for children and their parents to enjoy. There were clowns entertaining guests with balloons and toys, puzzles for kids to solve with parents and newly-made friends, and even a science experiment conducted by teachers in which children could see and hold soft fluffy balls of cloud made by a machine! There were also stations for face painting, and an archery range.
The afternoon concluded with live music performances from students. Families had the chance to enjoy songs in both English and Chinese. It was a great way for families to socialize and get more involved in the community.
It was a great day for everyone! We wish the YCIS Beijing community the best of luck in the new school year. Also, we would like to thank everyone who came by the beijingkids booth to say hello, and there will be plenty more chances in the near future to meet up and get to know the team that’s providing you with Beijing’s essential international family resource.
For those wanting to know more about YCIS Beijing, they are holding another information session (YCIS Beijing Open Day) for prospective parents on September 19 from 9am onwards at their downtown campus. The event is for parents of Primary and Secondary School-aged children (age 5 to 18). You can click here to register.
