Summer is here, the two sessions are over, and quarantine restrictions are easing up by the day… yet it’s still a bit unclear exactly when and where we can travel into different regions of China. If you and your family are itching to get out of town for a getaway, The Hutong’s new ‘Family Weekend Getaway‘ on Jun 13-14 could be just the thing.
For two days, The Hutong is taking groups of families out to Shimenshan Outdoor base in Beijing’s northern hills for a fun and adventure-packed weekend including Via Ferrata (for bigger kids and adults), BBQ, a water obstacle course, hiking, basketball, frisbee, and plenty of fun and games including a family quiz night.
While most adults in Beijing are familiar with The Hutong via their fantastic cooking classes and annual Winter Fayre in their beautiful hutong courtyard headquarters, or (for the more adventurous) annual week-long cycling trips, The Hutong’s account manager Luke Giles says there is much more to the company that most adults don’t see. “A big part of our business is travel, and specifically, taking school kids on experiential education adventures around China” and while they have taken a big hit over the last half-year, he says the team have been itching to get out and about and do their usual trips “We’re also missing the great outdoor too! this is a fun way to get us back out there, and give kids (and adults) a fun, easy way, to have an outdoor adventure on a weekend”
For Giles, the idea is to make this as easy and stress-free for families as possible, so all meals are included in the itinerary, including the fun Family Spaghetti Cook-off on Sunday afternoon. Families will stay in camp-cabins or tents (as they prefer), and all transportation, booking, and logistics are taken care of by The Hutong so you can rest easy knowing that you’re not going to get stung by a pesky 14-day quarantine when you return home!
