After many months of music performances being canceled or postponed due to COVID-19, the Beijing Music Festival (BMF) returns in full force and combines forces with musicians in Wuhan to showcase 240 online and offline musical performances from Oct 10 – 20. Since 1998, the BMF has presented the best musicians, composers, orchestras, and singers to become one of the premier cultural events in China.
Their outreach programs shine through the many musical offerings in the festival, and this year the BMFl highlights two special events for and by children.
BMF spent months cultivating 100 student musicians with online rehearsals to perform Beethoven’s beloved musical selections. The “Classic for Kids” concert featuring the BMF Children Festival Orchestra celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. Artists include Alex Liangjie Lu on the violin, BMF Children Festival Orchestra, and Zhang Bingbing conducting.
