Theme park fans can finally get a real feel of what it will be like to stroll around Universal Studios Beijing, as the company revealed brand-new concept art for its seven movie-inspired themed lands this week.
The Beijing park brings together some of Universal’s most famous attractions from around the world, as well as special themed experiences created for China that reflect the country’s cultural heritage. The seven themed lands include Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Transformers Metrobase, Minion Land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Hollywood, and Waterworld.
In a press release, Universal laid out some exclusive details of what visitors can expect when they visit the themed lands. For example, in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you can recreate your favorite scenes from the books and movies at Hogwarts castle, exploring the Gryffindor Common Room and the Room of Requirement, then top off your visit with a pint of Butterbeer. In Jurassic World Isla Nublar, visitors will take an All-Terrain Luxury Automatic System (ATLAS) into the island wilderness, confronting life-like Velociraptors and the Indominus Rex. In the serene world of Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, you can go on a kung fu adventure with Po, fighting off Tian Shan on the unique flume ride, Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior.
The latter looks to be a highlight of the resort, being Universal’s first Kung Fu Panda-themed land. Universal has worked closely with Chinese designers and artists to bring the land of “Legendary China” to life. For example, the press release describes the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom, located in the center of the land, which features 58,000 handmade blossoms paired with 360-degree projection and other technologies to continually change seasons through winter, spring, summer, and fall.
Alongside the Universal Studios Beijing theme park, Universal Resort Beijing also includes a shopping and dining area at Universal CityWalk Beijing, and two resort hotels, The Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel. With so many accommodation options, it seems like the resort will be the must-visit getaway of 2021, even for those of us who live in Beijing.
Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Beijinger reported, construction at Universal has continued apace, with the resort expected to soft open in spring 2021 and fully open later that same year.
